Thinking About HRT? Here’s What a Hormone Consultation Actually Looks Like
Maybe your sleep has changed.
Maybe your energy has disappeared.
Maybe you're dealing with hot flashes, mood changes, reduced libido or a body that suddenly seems to be playing by a completely different set of rules.
For a lot of women, the frustrating part isn't only the symptoms.
It's not knowing whether what they're experiencing is “normal,” whether hormones are involved or whether there’s anything they can actually do about it.
Hormone replacement therapy — or HRT — is one option that may be considered for appropriate patients.
But the starting point isn't a prescription.
It’s a proper medical conversation.
You don’t need to diagnose yourself before coming in
One of the biggest misconceptions around hormone care is that you need to arrive already knowing exactly what’s wrong.
You don’t.
Symptoms associated with hormonal changes can overlap with plenty of other things.
Fatigue, sleep disruption, weight changes, brain fog and mood changes aren't exclusive to menopause or hormonal imbalance.
That's exactly why medical assessment matters.
Our role is to listen to the full picture rather than decide that every tired woman needs hormones.
What will we talk about?
Expect your consultation to go deeper than “What symptom bothers you most?”
Relevant information can include:
• Your current symptoms
• When those symptoms started
• Menstrual history where relevant
• Medical history
• Current medications
• Previous treatments
• Sleep
• Energy
• Mood
• Sexual health
• Weight and metabolic changes
• Your personal goals
Hormonal health isn't one symptom in isolation.
The pattern matters.
What is HRT?
Hormone replacement therapy is medical treatment used to supplement hormones that have declined or changed.
For women, treatment may involve estrogen and, depending on the individual circumstances, progesterone or other therapies.
The exact treatment approach should always be based on your medical history, symptoms and clinical suitability.
This is also why copying somebody else's hormone regimen — even if they swear it “changed their life” — is not a treatment plan.
What is appropriate for one person may be completely inappropriate for another.
Is HRT just for hot flashes?
No.
Hot flashes and night sweats are two of the most recognizable symptoms associated with menopause, but hormone changes can affect patients in many different ways.
That can include changes in sleep, mood, sexual health and overall quality of life.
The important bit is not assuming hormones are responsible for every symptom.
A consultation allows us to look at everything together and decide what deserves further investigation.
What if HRT isn't right for me?
Then we tell you.
The point of medical supervision isn't to find a way to sell you HRT.
It's to determine whether it makes sense.
Some people aren't suitable candidates. Some may need another issue investigated. Some may benefit from a different approach entirely.
A useful consultation can still be useful even when the outcome is not starting treatment.
What about men and testosterone replacement?
We also offer medically supervised hormone treatment for men where clinically appropriate.
Low testosterone can be associated with symptoms such as reduced libido, fatigue and loss of muscle mass, but again, those symptoms can have several possible causes.
Testosterone replacement therapy isn't something that should be started purely because somebody feels tired or because a number on a single test looks low.
Assessment and ongoing medical supervision matter.
You are allowed to ask whether feeling this way is normal
You don't need to wait until your symptoms become unbearable before talking to someone.
If something has changed and you don't feel like yourself, that alone is enough reason to start a conversation.
