VEIN REMOVAL
Sclerotherapy
OVERVIEW
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive, non-surgical outpatient procedure used to treat spider veins and small varicose veins by injecting a specially formulated chemical solution — known as a sclerosant — directly into the affected vein. The solution causes the vein wall to collapse and seal shut, forcing blood to naturally reroute through healthier nearby veins. Over time, the treated vein is reabsorbed by the body and fades from view, leaving the skin clearer and smoother. Sclerotherapy has been a gold-standard treatment for spider veins for decades and is safe, effective, and well-tolerated with minimal downtime.
KEY BENEFITS
Effectively eliminates spider veins and small varicose veins
Non-surgical, in-office procedure with no general anesthesia required
Minimal downtime — most clients return to normal activities the same day
Improves both the appearance and any associated discomfort of treated veins
Long-lasting results — treated veins do not return
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Clients with visible spider veins or small varicose veins on the legs who are bothered by their appearance or experiencing associated symptoms such as aching, heaviness, or itching. Best suited for adults in good general health who are not pregnant and have realistic expectations about the number of sessions needed.
THE PROCESS
How it works…
Consultation
We assess the size, location, and severity of the veins to confirm sclerotherapy is appropriate and to map out a treatment plan. Underlying venous insufficiency is ruled out if needed.
Preparation
The treatment area is cleansed. No anesthesia is required. You will be positioned comfortably on the treatment table with the legs slightly elevated.
injections
Using a very fine needle, the sclerosant solution is carefully injected into each targeted vein. Patients typically feel only a mild stinging or cramping sensation. Multiple veins can be treated in a single session, which usually takes 15-45 minutes.
Post-treatment
Compression stockings are applied immediately after treatment and should be worn as directed — typically for several days — to support the treated veins and optimise results. Walking is encouraged, but strenuous exercise and sun exposure should be avoided for 1-2 weeks.
Results
Treated veins gradually fade over 3-6 weeks as the body reabsorbs the collapsed vessels. Multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are often needed for comprehensive clearance. Results are long-lasting, though new spider veins can develop over time.
